Don’t judge a book by its cover. In this case, don’t judge a river by its name!

Bangang River is far from its namesake.

Sungai Bangan or Bangang as the locals call it, is one of the least visited rivers in the state of Terengganu. It still retained much of it’s clarity as it is largely untouched by human activities. Just look at that crystal clear water!

It has been dubbed as the ‘Jiuzhaigou’ of Malaysia, which is a beautiful natural reserve park in China.

With a stunning blue and green hue, it is one of the least visited rivers and for a very good reason – mainly due to the remote location of the river. But fret not, Bangang River is easily accessible with some research and determination.

The river is located in the vicinity of Gunung Chemerong, Berembun, Langsir (CBL). According to the rangers and experienced hikers, it takes approximately 2 days 1 night to complete the hike, so it’s definitely physically challenging to say the least.

However, just look at that lucidity! You know it’s definitely worth the journey.

The starting trail is located at Hutan Lipur Chemerong within Hulu Dungun. It’s roughly 100km away from Kuala Terengganu. The forest is open to the public from 8AM to 5PM and there’s multiple leisure activities within the forest that everyone could do.

Besides its beautiful crystal clear waters, the forest also hides the Chemerong waterfall, one of the highest waterfalls in Malaysia.

Generally, the trail would start from Hutan Lipur Chemerong, and then hikers would make their way to the peak of Chemerong and Berembun mountain. Hikers would then spend the night at the Langsir waterfall, which is the preferred campsite.

The next day, hikers could watch the sunrise at the peak of Langsir waterfall while getting themselves ready for another journey. And then approximately 3 hours in, voila! Hikers would arrived at the much awaited Bangang river!

With such beautiful scenery and water, there is no denying that Bangang River is one that every Malaysian should experience. But of course, if you do go, please please please preserve its natural beauty and not dispose any trash around.

If you do visit the place, please do your part and keep the beautiful nature clean.

And if you have no prior experience in hiking, it is strongly recommended that you are accompanied by an experience group of hikers or rangers! Happy hiking!
